Greenacres is located in Palm Beach County and has been hit by hurricanes practically since the year of its incorporation, 1926. Perhaps it has been these hardships that have helped it grow into a supportive caring community with a strong sense of family. The city provides excellent recreational facilities at its many parks and conducts year round programs and educational classes for all ages. The nineties saw a large influx of people of Latin American origin and today the population is over 30 thousand with a high percentage of African American and Hispanic people living in an area of 5 square miles.

Hit by hurricanes in 2004, the city has emergency plans in place and the citizens too have a high degree of awareness about what to do in an emergency. Each member of the family knows how to respond if they are not together and every home has its emergency kit with water and food supplies and medical needs in order. FEMA services have reached the unfortunate ones who suffered in last year’s disasters.

The caring of the city is visible in the number of special events throughout the year. ‘Holiday in the Park’ is an annual holiday celebration at Greenacres Community Park. There is fun for everybody, particularly little ones who partake in free craft activities and are regaled with a visit from Santa Claus. There are contests galore for all ages such as a gingerbread house decorating contest, tree decoration contest and a silent tree auction. Stroll through the park filled with family oriented activities and steeped in the holiday spirit. You will enjoy art and craft vendors, strolling carolers, holiday entertainment, and performances by children Food, drinks, and seasonal treats are available too.

‘Love on the Lawn’ during Valentine’s Day is a special time for love and romance with the Mayor and his wife participating too. Roses and chocolates abound a live band is in attendance. This is a chance to-dedicate your love to your beloved and receive a “Certificate of Love.” The ‘Annual Daddy Daughter Date’ is a very popular and special event. Girls aged from 4-17 spend an enchanted evening their special date. It could be grandfather, step-father, or favorite uncle besides daddy who share a candle light dinner, dancing and lots of fun.

‘Community Celebration’ is something everyone in Greenacres looks forward to every year. It celebrates the community’s history, heritage, spirit, and pride with a variety of ethnic music, entertainment, and food. It is fun, education, and entertainment for the whole family.

The City of Greenacres has numerous community programs specifically catering to different age groups. Working parents can enroll their school going kids in an after school enrichment C.A.R.E.S program. There are activities every afternoon and camps during vacations to help children learn to live together with love. Cool zone is a program for middle school children during week-days. They go on field trips, make arts and crafts, and play games. They can even learn cooking dancing and self-defense. Hot Spot gets teenagers together and helps them develop communication and social skills. The diverse program includes education on teen issues regarding teen pregnancy, sex education, drug education, building of self-esteem, and self-confidence. Greenacres proves it truly cares.
