Palmetto is the perfect place for a relaxed vacation! Great weather, loads of diverse recreational facilities, wonderful food and quite off the beaten track! This city in Manatee County is on the Manatee River and home to about fourteen thousand people. A large influx of Latin American immigrants in the nineties swelled the population by almost 30%.

History buffs will love Palmetto for the wonderful preservation work done by the local Historical Association. It all began in an attempt to save the demolition of an original post office during development work. The post office was shifted brick by brick to what is now Palmetto Historical Park. Now the area comprises of the original post office, the town's first city hall, public school, Carnegie Library, municipal water plant, and fire station. Later three additional buildings were also relocated to this property. Newer additions to the Park have been the Heritage Chapel and the Agricultural Museum.

Palmetto offers a variety of water sports that have made it popular with the locals and tourists. The Green Bridge Fishing Pier is open 24 hours and is the perfect fishing and scenic views. There is a shop for fishing gear and a restaurant. For longer fishing expeditions, you can get a boat from any local charters. Schomburg Farms is a horse farm spread over 65 beautiful acres with two scenic lakes and wooded trails. They offer horseback riding as well as riding lessons. Kids love their petting zoo and one can picnic in the wooded cookout area equipped with picnic tables and a charcoal grill.

There are innumerable excellent golf courses at Palmetto and a golf academy of repute too. Buffalo Creek Golf Course is a public 18-hole Scottish links style golf course built on rolling hills with many uneven lies and several water hazards. Imperial Lakewoods Golf Club is considered one of the best courses in the area. This beautiful 18 hole championship golf course is situated on over 500 magnificent wooded acres and includes 16 lakes and a country club.

Stay at a range of different types of accommodation. Palmetto House Bed and Breakfast at Downtown River Front Marina is a romantic riverside place surrounded by towering royal palms and moss covered live oaks overlooking the Regatta Pointe Marina. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and it features five well-appointed guest rooms, two private poolside cottages, all decorated with period furnishings. Enjoy breakfast buffet on the enclosed sun porch overlooking the Manatee River.

Frog Creek Camp Grounds & RV Park is scenic site under a canopy of majestic live oaks, just south of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and fishing piers and minutes from some of Florida's most beautiful gulf beaches.

Enjoy a meal at the small and quaint family run Crusader Café offering a wide array of traditional American food made with the freshest ingredients. The Alvarez Mexican Restaurant offers both indoor and patio dining and serves authentic, traditional Mexican cuisine.
