The City of Lake Mary offers the best of all worlds. The greatest advantage is its location. Lake Mary began as two small villages called Bent's Station and Belle Fontaine in the19th century. They were strategically located along the railroad that ran between Sanford and Orlando. Lake Mary gets its named from the wife of a minister who settled on the northern shores of the lake. Incorporated in1973, Lake Mary was originally a Citrus growing community.

Orlando boomed in the early seventies with the growth of Walt Disney World and the development towards the north transformed Lake Mary into a semi-rural bedroom community serving Orlando. The late eighties and early nineties saw the city of Lake Mary grow rapidly with new residential neighborhoods and the addition of commercial, office and industrial centers.

The well planned residential communities, excellent schools and convenient accessibility has made Lake Mary the first choice of young families and professionals. Orlando and the fast growing high tech business center near Heathrow as well as local corporate offices of prominent businesses and the light manufacturing industrial units all provide wonderful job opportunities.

You can choose from a variety of housing though it is primarily a suburban single -family residential community. Lake Mary boasts of an array of affordable apartments, luxury condominiums, and rental properties. Growing families find the quiet neighborhoods safe and there is convenient shopping available too. Lake Mary is a friendly place to live and work. The wonderful weather, scenic beauty and other facilities has made Lake Mary an attractive choice for retirees. There are several upscale golf course communities and active retirement communities all within a few minutes drive of the City Centre.

The local congregation has a choice of a number of churches of different denominations such as Church of the Nativity, Rolling Hills Moravian Church, Saint Peters Episcopal Church, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, and Lakeview Baptist Church. In addition to excellent schools, Lake Mary is home to ITT Tech, a leading private college focused on technology-oriented programs of study. Here students train to develop the skills and knowledge to pursue many opportunities in fields involving technology, criminal justice, and business.

Recreational facilities abound at the many lakes. Enjoy excellent fishing and boating as well as other water sports at Lake Mary, Lake Como, Lake Crystal, Lake Dawson, Lake Bingham, or Lake Emma. There is a Family History Center at Lake Mary, a branch of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. The Center provides access to most of the microfilms and microfiche in the Family History Library to help patrons identify their ancestors.
