Lynn Haven in Bay County has a long history of patriotism. Union veterans led by W.H. Lynn, a Senator from the state of New York and publisher of the 'Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) National Tribune founded Lynn Haven as a retirement community for Union Army Civil War veterans. They were encouraged by New York shipping tycoon Minor C. Keith, who owned vast acreage where Lynn Haven is now located.

Lynn Haven boasts of the only monument honoring a Union soldier south of the Mason-Dixon Line. The public collected funds for the statue of a Union soldier holding a musket and it was built in 1920. He was placed facing north on a forty feet pedestal, as a tribute to union soldiers, living and dead from the Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery or Navy. The monument was rededicated in1959 to the honor of all U.S. veterans who have died in battle.

Located on the scenic North Bay, this beautiful community was first incorporated in1914. In 1927, the Florida Legislature amended the Lynn Haven charter and it became a city. Lynn Haven today encompasses 8 square miles and is a growing community of over 12,000 people attracted by its excellent climate, open spaces and water. The city has a 200-acre industrial park and is home to a thriving business community, including Trane, Schwinco, IPSO, Allied Bendix, and Sallie Mae. Despite this, Lynn Haven has maintained its small town appeal and is a great place to live. Most homes have of breath taking water-views and there are numerous opportunities for recreation.

Its quaint and historic City Hall dates back to 1928. The Lynn Haven Public Library was Bay County's first library and had its modest beginning in 1911.The McMullin Library is today a part of the Northwest Regional Library System and has an extensive collection of books and other material. There is a strong community spirit in Lynn Haven and festivals are celebrated with enthusiasm. An opportunity to participate in Tree Lighting, Halloween, or the Winter Wonderland is a memorable experience.

The city boasts of an excellent recreation and sports complex. The Cain-Griffin Park was previously a large baseball field and today offers lighted baseball field, tennis courts, and basketball courts. The inviting playground and picnic pavilions, duck pond, volleyball

in addition, the walking/biking path makes it an attractive place for a family outing. Leslie Porter Park is a 13-acre waterfront park with a sandy beach that attracts sunbathers and swimmers alike. Boating facilities and a fishing bridge, saltwater sandy beach with a beach volleyball court and picnic shelters make it another picnic option.

Nature Walk Course offers a country club and a fantastic golf course. This challenging course features undulating greens water hazards, trees, and sand bunkers. The course also has the only triple green in Florida. The City of Lynn Haven Police Department holds an Adventure Camp each summer for Lynn Haven boys and girls in a program to improve relations between the police and the youngsters.
