Perry is a charming rural community located southeast of Tallahassee near the Ecofina River and the Gulf of Mexico. Very little has changed in this rustic part of the state and people enjoy simple pleasures of old. Perry is the county seat of Taylor County and located in the Florida Panhandle. The community is believed to be named for Gov. Madison Starke Perry. This area has traditionally been a lumber center.

The highlight of any visitor’s trip to Perry has to be the Forest Capital State Museum and Cracker Homestead. The Museum is dedicated to the beauty and productivity of Florida's forest and celebrates the heritage of Florida's forest industry. Learn about the longleaf pines and the 5,000 products manufactured from them. Adjacent to the museum is an authentic 19th century Cracker homestead, built in 1864. It exhibits antique furnishings and vintage farm equipment.

Stroll through the beautiful park grounds of the museum, where the canopy of fifty year old longleaf pines and live oaks shade the winding walking trails. Stroll through the thirteen manicured acres hedged in evergreens that are bordered by beds of cootie palms wild azaleas and more. The Taylor County Bluegrass Festival is something to look forward to for music lovers. This annual free concert is held in the grounds of the Forest State Park.

Doctors Memorial Hospital is a well equipped local hospital that looks after the medical needs of the residents of Perry. Taylor County Public library is located in Perry and has an enviable stock of books and video tapes. There are very many churches of all denominations in the city where the congregation pray. The Perry Golf Club and course is suitable for beginners or intermediate players. The nine hole, par 70, semiprivate golf course was built in 1954 and features narrow, tree-lined fairways.
