Satellite Beach Florida

FEATURED LISTING: Florida ::: Satellite Beach

Satellite Beach is a small community located on Florida’s Space Coast in Brevard County. Located just south of Patrick Air Force Base, Satellite Beach is situated along the central Atlantic coast, and lies between the Atlantic coast and the Indian River Lagoon. Its proximity to Patrick Air Force Base makes Satellite Beach a favorite of military families. It is the largest beachside community in South Brevard, but along this coast, the beach towns flow into one another and there is little to tell them apart.

Certainly, the beaches here are less crowded than nearby Cocoa Beach, and even the water seems to be more turquoise than it is at points further north. The coast is lined by low-rise condos except for the beachfront Pelican Beach Park, which attracts family crowds, especially on weekends. The beach is patrolled in the summer, and its shallow waters make it that much safer for children.

Satellite Beach was incorporated in 1957, and today over ten thousand people call it home. The space program and Patrick Air Force Base has contributed greatly to the development of Satellite Beach. It has a wide range of neighborhood developments, including the upscale, exclusive community of Tortoise Island. Outdoor recreation of residents and visitors includes swimming, beachcombing, surfing, snorkeling, hiking, boating, fishing, and sunbathing on the beach.

Conveniently situated between two major causeways, residents and tourists have easy access to nearby shops, malls, and restaurants. More and more people have discovered the advantages of Satellite Beach: scenic beauty, convenient location, great schools, and numerous recreational opportunities. There are a number of golf courses, skateboard parks, ball fields, lake and beachside parks near the town that are very popular with locals.

Pelican Beach Park has sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, covered pavilions and a playground. Families with young children home in there regularly. The nearby Samson's Island Nature Park is popular with nature lover and offers nature trails, camping and fishing. Surf fishers should head over to Seagull Park.

The health conscious and athletic finds great facilities at the Satellite Beach Gymnasium, which is home to the Police Athletic League, Youth Basketball Program and the Blue Thunder, a competitive girls’ basketball team. A men's basketball league, youth basketball training sessions, as well as the volleyball programs are very popular with residents.

Residents of Satellite Beach typically are affluent married couples between the ages of 45 and 64. It is popular with retirees, though many are business owners or managers. They live in suburban single-family homes valued above the national average.

Satellite Beach has a semi-tropical climate that becomes quite warm and humid during the months of June, July and August. Short, frequent showers and thunderstorms are generally local. Large tropical storms can bring high winds and inundating rainfalls, but due to excellent weather forecasting, people receive timely warning time, be up to a week. September and October remain warm, with quite a few showers in September. November to February is sunny with pleasant daytime temperatures and cool nights.
