Sunny Isles Beach is a young city with fewer than 17 thousand people of all ages, and ethnic diversity. Incorporated in 1997, Sunny Isles Beach is located on a barrier island in the northeast corner of Miami-Dade County. It lies between the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Intracoastal Waterway on the west with Golden Beach to its north. Bal Harbor and Haulover Park are to the south. Sunny Isles Beach is midway between downtown Miami and Fort Lauderdale and is the perfect vacation location.

Almost one million vacationers visit Sunny Isles Beach every year to enjoy the sun, sea and the sand. The 2 ½ mile-long fine sand beach provides water sports, boating and fishing, In 1997, the City Commission purchased land for developing City parks. They created an oceanfront park, the beautiful Samson Oceanfront Park that provides children’s play area and space to relax. Sunny Isles Beach may be a young independent city, but the area has been built up for many years. In fact the city is being redeveloped in many parts and outdated motels are being replaced by condominiums and other luxury residential oceanfront development. Care however is taken to ensure that ensure that view corridors and beach access pathways will always be available for residents. The City is building parks, improving the infrastructure and laying the groundwork for future redevelopment. Town Center Park is coming up on the site of a former 1-story shopping mall. The park will include a playground area, fitness trail, and gazebo. Much of this property is state protected wetland area.

The City provides free Community Shuttle Service with three different routes for the convenience of residents and visitors. Miami-Dade County provides library services to the residents of Sunny Isles Beach. Located on the ground floor of the Government Center the library now offers patrons its brand new collection of books and other materials, in addition to facilities to surf the Internet through more than twenty computer stations. Many of the city’s parks hold concerts and City-organized recreational programs. Attractive playground equipment keeps kids busy while parents relax. The parks are perfect venues for picnics.
