Weston, Florida
Weston is a master-planned city in western Broward County, just east of the Everglades. Known for its landscaped neighborhoods, parks, trails, and polished suburban setting, it is best known as a residential community, but it also works well as a calm base for exploring nearby Everglades attractions, shopping in central Broward County, and other parts of South Florida.

Much of the land that became Weston was assembled in the 1950s by Arthur Vining Davis, whose real-estate company Arvida later played a major role in development. The area now known as Bonaventure followed a separate development path, while the larger planned community was originally known as Indian Trace.
About the Community
The Indian Trace Development District was created in 1981 to help build roads, utilities, and neighborhoods for the new community. Arvida changed the name from Indian Trace to Weston in 1984, and early residential areas included Windmill Ranch and Country Isles. Weston continued to grow through the 1980s and 1990s and was incorporated as a city in 1996, with local district leadership helping guide the transition. It has since become one of South Florida’s best-known master-planned communities.

Additional Information
As Weston developed, business districts formed in key locations. Corporate offices, medical facilities, retail services, and small businesses provide employment in the area, while many residents commute elsewhere in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. For visitors, familiar landmarks include Weston Town Center, local hotel clusters, neighborhood parks, and the Cleveland Clinic Florida campus.

Parks and recreation are a big part of the city’s appeal. Weston Regional Park, neighborhood green spaces, golf facilities, and multi-use paths help make it easy to enjoy family outings and outdoor exercise. Community events, concerts, movie nights, seasonal programs, and arts activities are also part of the local calendar, with schedules varying by date.

Weston is also known for its civic-minded approach to municipal services. Many city functions are provided through public- and private-sector contracts rather than a large direct workforce. The city has also offered community and student leadership initiatives, including the Weston University Program, though program details and availability may change over time.
