Additional Details
Bunnell’s role as the county seat is reflected in its historic civic core. Flagler County once used a former bank building for court and county offices before a new courthouse was constructed in 1924. Visitors exploring the area often combine a stop in Bunnell with nearby Bulow Plantation Ruins Historic State Park, where coquina sugar mill ruins help tell the story of a plantation established in the 1820s and destroyed during the Second Seminole War in 1836. Today the site preserves trails, exhibits, and the remains of that plantation landscape.

Nearby Bulow Creek State Park and the Bulow Creek paddling area are popular for canoeing, kayaking, hiking, picnicking, and wildlife watching. Depending on season and conditions, visitors may spot bald eagles, swallow-tailed kites, wading birds, turtles, and other native wildlife, and manatees are sometimes seen in connected waterways. The Bulow Woods Trail links the Fairchild Oak in Bulow Creek State Park with Bulow Plantation Ruins Historic State Park beneath a canopy of live oaks and pines, including some trees once tapped for turpentine. Trail conditions, water levels, and park hours can vary by date, so checking official park information before heading out is a good idea.
