Quincy, Florida
About 20 miles west of Florida’s capital, Tallahassee, Quincy is the county seat of Gadsden County. The city was named for John Quincy Adams, and settlement expanded soon after the United States acquired the Territory of Florida from Spain in 1821.

About The Community
Quincy developed as an agricultural center, with tobacco long dominating the local economy before that industry declined in the late 20th century. Today, area farms, nurseries, and forestry remain part of the region’s identity. Quincy is also widely known as “the Coca-Cola town.” In the 1920s, banker Mark W. Munroe encouraged family and friends to invest in the then-young Coca-Cola Company, creating the local legend of Quincy’s Coca-Cola millionaires.

Quincy’s historic downtown is a highlight for visitors. The Quincy Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, spans roughly 36 blocks around the courthouse square, which has served as a center of government and commerce since 1827. A stroll through town reveals antebellum and turn-of-the-century homes, stained and leaded glass, brick storefronts, murals, and civic buildings that reflect the city’s long history. The Quincy Music Theatre presents community productions and events, while the Gadsden Arts Center offers regional art and rotating exhibitions. Hours and event schedules can vary, so it is wise to check official sites before your visit.
