Port St. Lucie is one of the Treasure Coast’s largest cities and a major community in St. Lucie County. Incorporated in 1961, it grew from a planned residential development into a large modern city known for golf, parks, nature preserves, spring training baseball, and convenient access to nearby Atlantic beaches.

In 1958, General Development Corporation acquired the River Park area and adjoining acreage, and in 1959 a bridge opened across the St. Lucie River to support the new community. By 1961, about 250 homes had been built as Port St. Lucie took shape. Since then, the city has grown from a population of 330 in 1970 to well over 200,000 residents today.

Port St. Lucie began primarily as a residential community, but over the decades it has developed into a diverse city with major shopping areas, healthcare services, sports venues, and growing business districts such as Tradition and St. Lucie West.
