Live Oak, Florida
Live Oak is the county seat of Suwannee County in North Florida, east of Tallahassee and not far from the Suwannee River. Named for a large live oak tree that once served as a community gathering place, this small city is a convenient base for exploring river recreation, nearby springs, local history, and the area’s signature music festivals.

About The Community
Live Oak offers a classic small-town downtown, public schools, library services through the Suwannee River Regional Library System, and workforce training at Riveroak Technical College. Residents are supported by local clinics and regional medical providers, while visitors are drawn by the area’s easygoing pace, outdoor access, and strong sense of community.

Visitors can enjoy local hospitality during annual events such as Christmas on the Square, the Suwannee County Fair, and the many concerts and festivals hosted at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. Lake Mary offers opportunities for fishing and paddling, and the Suwannee County Historical Museum, located in the former Atlantic Coast Line Freight Station just north of the railroad tracks, highlights railroad history, regional artifacts, a notable telephone collection, and exhibits tied to Timucuan and early settlement heritage.
Important Links (Suggest / Report)
Live Oak is especially well known for Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, a large campground and event venue on wooded acreage along the Suwannee River. The park has long offered cabins, RV sites, and tent camping, along with nature trails used for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and general exploring. Fishing, paddling, and live entertainment add to the appeal, but lodging options, rentals, festival schedules, and amenity availability can change, so confirm current details directly with the park before visiting.

Additional Details

Suwannee Springs Park lies just outside town and is a popular stop for river views, picnic space, and traces of the area’s springs-era past. Farther west, Suwannee River State Park makes a worthwhile day trip for hiking, paddling, fishing, birding, and exploring the meeting point of the Suwannee and Withlacoochee rivers. The broader Live Oak area is also known for springs and underwater cave systems, but cave diving should be left to properly trained and equipped divers who have checked current local conditions.
