Dania Beach is a coastal city in Broward County, just south of Fort Lauderdale and close to Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The community was incorporated in 1904 as Modello, making it one of the oldest municipalities in South Florida. It was renamed Dania in 1905 to honor Danish settlers who helped establish the area, and it later adopted the name Dania Beach to emphasize its Atlantic shoreline. Like many South Florida communities, it endured major storm damage in the 1920s and rebuilt over time into a city known for its beach, pier, marine businesses, and distinctive local character.
