About the Community
Incorporated in 1959, Lauderhill began as a planned community created by developer Herbert Sadkin on former dairy farmland in central Broward County. What started as a bold suburban vision gradually developed into an established city with residential neighborhoods, civic buildings, schools, and community amenities.
Today, Lauderhill covers roughly seven square miles in central Broward County and includes condos, single-family and multi-family neighborhoods, local businesses, and civic spaces. The city is especially known for its strong Caribbean and Latin American cultural influences, and the Sadkin Center reflects its long-standing emphasis on community services and neighborhood life.

Lauderhill grew significantly through the prominence of Inverrary Country Club and the Jackie Gleason Inverrary Golf Classic. The “Inverrary lifestyle” helped shape later development across the city, and the northwest section expanded in the late 1970s as a single-family home community. Jackie Gleason also built his final home in Lauderhill before his death in 1987.
