Marianna, Florida
Marianna, on the Chipola River, is a small Northwest Florida city of about 6,000 residents and the county seat of Jackson County. Founded in 1827 and traditionally said to be named for Mary and Anna, the daughters of Robert and Anna Maria Beveridge, Marianna is a convenient base for exploring this part of the Florida Panhandle, with a historic downtown, river recreation, and nearby Florida Caverns State Park.

About The Community
Downtown Marianna centers on the Jackson County courthouse square, where markers, monuments, and preserved buildings reflect layers of local history, including the Civil War-era Battle of Marianna. Visitors interested in heritage travel can explore the historic district’s commercial storefronts, churches, and homes dating from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Marianna Main Street and other local preservation efforts have helped keep the downtown area active, with shops, restaurants, and community events adding life to its historic setting. The city is also connected to the former Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys, an important and difficult chapter in Florida history that continues to be remembered and studied.

Residents have also supported downtown beautification through projects such as the four-sided Seth Thomas-style street clock near the post office. Surrounding commemorative bricks helped fund the installation and still give historic downtown a welcoming focal point for visitors.
