Weston, Florida
Weston is a master-planned city in western Broward County, just east of the Everglades. Known for its landscaped neighborhoods, parks, trails, and polished suburban feel, it is a well-known residential community and a convenient base for exploring nearby parts of South Florida.

Arthur Vining Davis, the original owner of Weston’s primary developer, bought 15,000 acres of land that now comprise much of the City of Weston in the 1950s. The area now known as Bonaventure was sold to be developed separately, and the larger community was originally known as Indian Trace.
About the Community
The Indian Trace Community Development District was created in 1981 to build homes and infrastructure for the development. Arvida changed the name from Indian Trace to Weston in 1984, and the first homes were completed in Windmill Ranch and Country Isles. By 1991, there were about 5,000 residents in the community. Weston continued to grow and was incorporated as a new city in 1996, with the district board serving as the interim city commission during the transition. Since then, Weston has become one of South Florida’s best-known master-planned communities.

Additional Information
As the city developed, business districts formed in prime locations. Corporate offices, healthcare facilities, and small businesses provide employment in the area, while many residents also commute to nearby parts of Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Weston remains a community known for its small-town feel and high quality of life.

Excellent schools, shops, religious diversity with a blend of churches and synagogues, plus recreational and cultural activities, have helped make Weston a sought-after community. The city includes hotels, a major hospital campus, an amphitheater, and Town Center. Numerous parks dot the city, and well-planned bike and walking trails provide access to many areas. Community events such as concerts, movies in the parks, arts festivals, and golf tournaments help bring people together.

The City of Weston provides many services through public- and private-sector contracts rather than maintaining a large direct workforce. The Weston University Program, initiated in 2002, is an eight-month civic education program for high school students. Participants learn about state, local, and Weston’s municipal government through classroom instruction and direct interaction with elected officials and city personnel, with the goal of encouraging leadership and civic responsibility.
