Winter Springs is a suburban city in Seminole County, northeast of downtown Orlando. The land that is now Winter Springs traces back to holdings associated with Moses E. Levy, a New York merchant whose large land grant covered parts of this area in territorial Florida. After the United States acquired Florida from Spain in 1821, settlement gradually expanded around Lake Jesup and the surrounding lakes, pine flatwoods, and hammocks.
About the Community
Incorporated as the City of North Orlando in 1959 and renamed Winter Springs in 1972, the community grew from a small settlement into one of Seminole County’s larger municipalities.
