Winter Springs, Florida
The land that is now Winter Springs traces back to holdings associated with Moses E. Levy, a New York merchant whose large land grant covered parts of this area in territorial Florida. After the United States acquired Florida from Spain in 1821, settlement gradually expanded around Lake Jesup and nearby lakes and hammocks.
About the Community
Incorporated as North Orlando in 1959 and renamed Winter Springs in 1972, the city has grown from a small settlement into one of Seminole County’s larger municipalities. Today, Winter Springs is home to tens of thousands of residents and covers about fifteen square miles.
Winter Springs is primarily a residential community with convenient access to major job centers across Seminole County, the University of Central Florida area, and metro Orlando. The city is about thirty minutes from downtown Orlando, traffic permitting.
